It was a wild scene on both sides of the Connecticut River Wednesday morning as a Swanzey, New Hampshire man led police on a high-speed chase from Vermont and into Claremont.
According to police, officers attempted to arrest 38-year-old Joseph Romano in Springfield, but the man fled authorities in his GMC pickup truck.
Romano struck a Springfield Police cruiser while fleeing, and then headed north on Route 5 and eventually into Claremont. Spike Strips were then deployed along Claremont’s Main Street, but the truck continued through the device before colliding with another vehicle and finally coming to rest in the parking lot of the Lambert Building Supply.
Romano was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless conduct, disobeying an officer and contempt of court.
Police say no one was injured as a result of the incident, and that Romano is currently being held at the Sullivan County Jail.
