Newport School Board Settles on $17.8M Budget
The Newport School Board also settled on a final proposal to send to voters to the tune of a 3-percent increase to the district’s current budget.
The board had been mulling multiple proposals over the past few weeks, before finally settling on a $17.8-million dollar proposal earlier this week.
Like Lebanon, residents of Newport will also vote on several warrant articles along with the school budget, including new one-year contracts for teachers and support staff, as well as some $71,000 dollars to cover SAU expenses if either Newport or Croydon were to officially withdraw from the district, of which Croydon has officially completed their withdrawal plan as of Monday.
If the budget and its articles are approved by voters, residents would stand to face an approximate $1.25 increase in their tax rate per every thousand dollars of their property assessment.
A public forum to discuss the district’s budget proposal is scheduled for Jan. 14.
