Man Arrested in Brattleboro Homicide
A follow-up on a story we first brought you earlier this month on the shooting death of a 35-year-old Brattleboro man found dead in a car on Old Ferry Road the morning of Nov. 9.
According to a press release, police found Sultan Rashed dead inside a vehicle with a single gunshot wound to his head. Officials initially believed the death was a suicide, but announced the following day the investigation would be treated as a homicide.
Vermont State Police arrested 39-year-old Leonard Moffatt Friday night, saying the man arranged to meet Rashed Sunday night in the same place where he was later found dead. Moffatt was charged with first-degree murder, and Monday pleaded not guilty in Windham Superior Court.
Police say the death appears to have been the result of a $10,000 drug debt. Moffatt is currently being held at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield on $500,000 dollars bail.
