Hospitals in the Green Mountain State are set to receive a big financial boost as part of a $500-million dollar national initiative by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Community health centers in Vermont will receive $2.7-million dollars of that pie, with the nearby Springfield Medical Care Systems set to receive nearly $300,000 in the coming week.
U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said in a press release that the funds “will allow our community health centers to serve more Vermonters who today lack adequate access to affordable health care.”
The funds were made available because of a Sanders provision in the Affordable Care Act that set aside approximately $11-billion dollars for community health centers.
Springfield Medical Care Systems is a non-profit health care system with seven locations as well as Springfield Hospital.
