Well there was some exciting double-local girls soccer action last night with the Fall Mountain Wildcats playing host to a Kearsarge team eager to continue its solid start to the regular season.

The Cougars headed into the contest with a solid 3-1-1 record, but coach Travis Dez-a-tell’s team knew it would be up against a Wildcats squad much better than its 1-3 record showed. And while it was Fall Mountain who carried play for the majority of the game’s opening minutes, it was Kearsarge that struck first with the game’s first goal with a little more than 15 minutes left in the first half.

And it was Sophomore Alexis McConnel who got the job done, collecting her own rebound off a nice save from Josie Holt, before firing a second offering into the back of the net. The Wildcats had their of chances later in the half to knot things up, with their best opportunity coming on this shot from Olivia Tenney.

Unfortunately for the home team, however, Kearsarge keeper Kalee Davis was their to make the save. Both goalies continued making impressive saves in the second half, before freshman Haley Lacombe ended any chances of a Fall Mountain comeback by notching the game’s final score with less than two minutes left to play.

Mike Pezone spoke with Kearsarge coach Travis Dezatell after the game, to ask about the significance of his team’s win.

The Cougars will try and earn a 3rd straight win Friday when they host Bow. Fall Mountain will host Hillsboro-Deering also on Friday.
