The Sunapee volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season earlier this week at the hands of unbeaten Winnisquam. So Lakers head coach Tom Reney was eager to see how his team would respond during last night’s showdown against a young Mascoma squad.
As it turned out, the response was a good one with Sunapee bullying its way to a 3-0 sweep of the Royals with victories of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-4. And it was junior Meg Frederick who led the way from the service line, earning 13 aces in the contest, finishing 20-for-21 including 14 straight in the decisive 3rd and final game.
Laura Sullivan was also nothing short of dominant at the line, finishing a perfect 26-for-26 with 10 aces. Mascoma also had its share of highlights on the night, despite what has been a difficult start for the 0-and-4 team.
Mike Pezone spoke with Sunapee coach Tom Reney after the match, who touched on his team’s goals heading into the matchup after having suffered its first loss of the season.
Mike also spoke with Meg Frederick, who talked about the state of her team at this point in the season.
The Lakers will try and improve to 4-1 Friday when they travel to face Pittsfield.
