Dartmouth Professor Waives Probable Cause Hearing in Child Porn Case

A Dartmouth College professor accused of possessing child pornography waived his right for a probable-cause hearing Tuesday, sending the case directly to the Sullivan County Grand Jury.

Dartmouth English professor J. Martin Favor was arrested September 3 after federal officials uncovered five videos in his Plainfield, New Hampshire home depicting children engaging in sexual acts. Favor had been under investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program.

The 49-year-old remains released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail. The Valley News reports that Favor was accompanied to Sullivan County Superior Court by his attorney – Charlie Buttrey – and his husband – Michael Blumenauer, who is also employed by Dartmouth College as the associate registrar for curriculum and graduation.

Favor remains on paid administrative leave, but is banned from being on Dartmouth property.
