The Lebanon Police Department’s K9 named Briggs is on track to receive a bullet and stab protective vest as part of a charitable donation by an anonymous donor. The vest is coming from Vested Interest in K9s Incorporated of in Massachusetts and will be embroidered with “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc”.
Briggs’ handler, Officer Tracy, has been an officer with Lebanon since 2003 and has been handling the male German Shepherd since 2013. The duo of Officer Tracy and K9 Briggs received a Commendation Bar for Lifesaving in January this year when they successfully tracked the victim of a motor vehicle accident who had fled into the forest in the snow. When they found him, he was suffering from hypothermia, but he was saved by responders.
In October, Tracy and Briggs will be given the New Hampshire Congressional Law Enforcement Award in the “Dedication and Professionalism” category. The protective vest, which will protect Briggs from bullet and stab wounds, should arrive in eight to ten weeks.
