It was a scary scene Tuesday night in Wilder, Vermont as fire crews battled a small blaze at the Wilder Motel. The Hartford Fire Department says that they responded to the building at 2495 Hartford Avenue at 11:06 PM Tuesday night for reports of a fire in Room 8 of the motel. Units found smoke coming from the building near the area of Room 8 and upon entering the room, found a heavy smoke condition and a mattress that was on fire.
It was quickly extinguished by fire crews and was deemed under control by 11:28 PM. An investigation revealed that only Room 8 was damaged by the fire and the remaining living units at the motel were deemed safe, allowing residents to return to their rooms.
Room 8 was unoccupied at the time of the fire and tax records show that the structure is owned by Gate Properties, LLC of Lebanon, NH. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and an investigation is underway to determine what started it.
No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the blaze.
