The Kearsarge boys tennis team hosted Monadnock yesterday for a double header. The first match was played to decision with Kearsarge winning 5 to 1. The second match however was a bit different with Kearsarge playing new players to try and switch things up.
After Kearsarge won its first, second and third singles matches from the Valovic brothers and Jack Van Etten, the cougars had an early lead. This allowed Kearsarge coach Lynn Miller to slot in some players who might not see regular action during a competitive match.
Sam Williamson, Charlie O’Connor and Jeff Wallace all played hard while stepping up to get their team the wins in the bottom three singles positions. Kearsarge went on to win by a score of 6 to 0.
Because this was the second match of a doubleheader, the game was called as each match is decided by a best of nine scenario meaning Kearsarge only had to win five matches to emerge victorious sweeping the doubleheader. Coach Miller sat down with YCN after the game to tell us her thoughts.
Kearsarge is still undefeated at 6 and 0 while Monadnock now sits at 1 and 4. The Cougars will face a tough Bow opponent Wednesday.
