News out of Newport, New Hampshire as crews responded to a small fire Thursday evening at the Sturm Ruger manufacturing building on Sunapee Street.
Members of the Newport Fire & EMS Department responded to the firearms company at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday night to find a small fire within one of the plant’s machines. Firefighters used their own extinguishers to put out the blaze, and deemed the fire under control shortly before 9 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains unknown according to an incident report, though it is not being considered suspicious.
Sturm Ruger has been manufacturing firearms for more than 60 years, with three locations inside the U.S. including plants in Arizona and North Carolina.
The Newport facility has made headlines in recent weeks, garnering visits from Republican presidential candidates Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush. Nobody was injured as a result of Thursday night’s fire, and crews were back at the station shortly after 9 p.m.
