Sunapee Boys Take Care of Business Against Defending Champs

It was a great atmosphere in Sunapee Friday night with the defending Division IV boys basketball champs in town, and the return of Issaiah Chappell on his home court.

And though it was Wilton-Lyndeborough who shot its way to a slim lead early with help from some precision jump shooting, the lead didn’t last long as Sunapee quickly hustled its way to a lead it never surrendered.

And it was the play of some role players who helped the home team pull away early, with the likes of Mike Platt and senior Ben Robinson converting key 3-pointers in the opening quarter. Those players also benefiting from some unselfish ball movement, with Austin Leblanc connecting on several back-door cuts from point guard Matt Tenney.

When all was said and done, it was the Lakers left celebrating a 69-48 victory over the defending champion Warriors, led by a game-high 23 points from Issaiah Chappell. Chappell netted five 3-pointers in what was his second game back with the team, followed by Platt with 14, and Tenney with 13 points to complement an impressive 12 assists.

The teams will square off one more time during the regular season with Sunapee traveling to Wilton Feb. 5.

The Lakers will try and win their seventh straight game Monday night when they travel to Littleton.
