Big news out of Claremont as longtime city manager Guy Santagate announced Wednesday night that he will be retiring from his position at the end of 2016. Santagate made the announcement during Wednesday night’s city council meeting after a brief non-public session regarding a lengthy annual performance review.
The 77-year-old has served as the city’s top administrator since 2001, and played a pivotal role in the multi-million dollar rehabilitation project in the Water Street mill district.
Santagate came to Claremont after having served as the city manager in his hometown of Chelsea, Massachusetts, and will aid in the process of finding his replacement.
Santagate – who has worked with numerous mayors in his 15 years in the city – will serve his final year alongside newly elected mayor Charlene Lovett, who ousted incumbent mayor Jim Nielsen in elections held earlier this fall.
