The town of Newport has begun gauging interest in the former Lil’ Red Baron restaurant building located near the airport, setting the stage for a potential sale of the conveniently sitting 1-acre parcel.
The Mexican-themed restaurant operated for nearly 10 years at its Airport Road location, but was forced to close last March when the building’s septic system failed. Newport acquired the property after its former owner was unable to pay for repairs, and residents voted back in May to give the town authority to sell the building.
Now, the town has taken the first steps of seeing if there’s interest from potential buyers by issuing a formal “Request for expression of interest.”
Respondents have until noon on Dec. 17 to submit their qualifications and ideas for the property town manager Shane O’Keefe, before responses are reviewed at an informational town meeting to be held in January.
