News out of Springfield, Vermont as a Charlestown, New Hampshire man has been arrested for Driving Under the Influence. 25-year old Matthew Baran was not driving his vehicle when he was apprehended, and was instead passed out in a parked vehicle with a gun on his lap.
A Springfield Police officer was issuing parking tickets when they found Baran and coaxed him out of the vehicle at gunpoint, after which they tested his sobriety level.
In a preliminary test of sobriety and breath, it was found that he was indeed impaired by alcohol. He was charged with DUI and will appear in court on December 1st.
According to Vermont’s annual report on highway safety, drunk driving continues to be a significant cause of death in traffic accidents, with an average of around 19 deaths per year from 2010 to 2012.
As we told you Monday, Vermont State Police continue to bring this number lower and lower and will be stepping up patrols over the holiday weekend to keep everyone safe on the roads.
