Claremont Honors Those Who Served Our Country
In Claremont Wednesday morning, area veterans and members of the public gathered at the Broad Street Park in the shadow of the opera house to honor those who served. A friendly crowd gathered at the half hour event, hosted by the American Legion Post 29. Michael Richmond, the adjutant at Post 29 introduced the various speakers to the podium and facilitated Wednesdays event.
The event was book ended by prayers from Post 29’s Chaplain, Richard Tremblay. Speakers included a currently enlisted Marine from Stevens High School’s Class of 2015 and mayor elect Charlene Lovett, who has a military history of her own. The crowd also heard from Post 29 commander, Sam Zannini on the significance of Veterans Day and the true value of veterans in our country today.
After the event, American Legion Post 29 hosted a meal at their post hall for veterans and the public alike, before travelling to Sullivan County Health Care where this morning’s event was recreated for the veterans currently in the nursing home.
