New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan and members of the Executive Council came to Claremont and Newport Wednesday. The governor and council, consisting of members Joseph Kenny, Christopher Sununu, David Wheeler, Colin Van Ostern and Christopher Pappas, first held a breakfast at the Claremont Savings Bank Community Center.
There, the topic of trade with Canada was at the forefront of discussion. Claremont City Manager Guy Santagate, Planning and Development Director Nancy Merill and City Council woman and Mayor elect Charlene Lovett spoke on behalf of city.
The Governor and Executive Council then moved the meeting to the Richards School in Newport where the Governor honored Executive Director of the Newport Chamber of Commerce Ella Casey and world armwrestling champion Cathy Merill.
The Newport High School chorus and band also entertained the governor and council, gifts were given by the town to the board and governor and Executive Council member Chris Sununu, by virtue of his name being drawn from a hat, armwrestled Cathy Merill.
