Charlene Lovett Elected Mayor of Claremont
CLAREMONT – City Councilwoman Charlene Lovett was elected Mayor of Claremont Tuesday night over incumbent mayor James Neilsen.
Lovett won the race by a considerable margin, receiving 1,154 votes as compared to the 665 cast for Neilsen. A military retiree, Lovett has said she doesn’t have to split her time between a job and serving the community, and can therefor put 100-percent of her time into looking at the issues and developing solutions.
Incumbent Assistant Mayor Vic Bergeron (738 votes) was victories in his re-election bid, topping challengers A.J. Maranville (463), or formal city councilor, and Kyle Messier (604), a current councilor. Allen Damren (1,046 votes), Keith Raymond (997), Bruce Temple (969) and John Simonds (791) won the four at-large councilor seats.
