Georges Mills General Store Reopens After January Fire
A little village in the town of Sunapee was dealt a punch in the gut early this year when a fire destroyed its only country store and gas station. It took crews from five fire departments to put out the blaze at the Jake’s Market – also known as the Georges Mills General Store – the early morning of January 4th, leaving many in the community reeling without its sole convenience store.
Jake’s General Manager Bruce Bergeron vowed at the time to rebuild the store and historic structure that dated back to the 1800’s, and Wednesday morning – some nine months after that devastating fire – those promises came to fruition.
Karen Timbrell owner of the Georges Mills General Store and Ed Kerrigan owner of Jake’s Markets and Deli held a ribbon cutting at the rebuilt store on October 14 to celebrate the reopening of the store in Georges Mills. Karen and Ed both thanked many people who helped in rebuilding the store after the fire on January 3 and 4.
The Georges Mills General Store will be open for business Friday morning, and we know many in our area will be thrilled to have this particular location back up and running.
