YCN was in Penacook, NH Friday night for the Kearsarge football team’s matchup against Merrimack Valley.
And once again, it was the Cougars running game that proved virtually unstoppable as the visiting team utilized its deep core of running backs on its way to a 46-26 victory and a second straight win. Kearsarge jumped out to an 8-0 lead after its first drive of the game thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run from Riley Antle, before a two-yard touchdown run by Scott Matthews on the team’s very next position had the Cougars celebrating a two score lead. Kearsarge got a third running back in the end zone on its next score – this time on a 1-yard rush from Justin Norris.
From there, the Cougars turned to the air as quarterback Willio Rehor connected with Parker Pitts on a nifty 20-yard touchdown pass to up the lead to 30-0, before both Antle and Norris rounded out their team’s scoring with their second touchdowns of the game.
Mike Pezone spoke with Antle after the victory to ask him about his team’s success of late, and depth at the running back position.
Mike also spoke with Kearsarge coach Zach Matthews, who talked about the state of his team four weeks into the season.
The Cougars will be off this week, but will try and improve to 4-1 on October 9th when they host Monadnock.
