As we told you last week, it’s been nothing but smooth sailing for the Sunapee volleyball team of late with 5-straight wins since its first and only loss of the season. And the Lakers extended that streak last night with another one-sided victory over Wilton-Lyndeborough.
Once again Coach Tom Rainey’s team took care of business in straight sets, with wins of 25-5, 25-4 and 25-17 to clinch Sunapee’s seventh sweep of the season and sixth straight. And after was a lackluster performance from the service line last week in the team’s win over Franklin, last night’s effort was anything but with the home team tallying the majority of its points on aces.
Leading the way for Sunapee was Rachel Malanga, who had the Warriors on their heels all evening behind a 18-for-19 effort from behind the line complemented by eight aces. Both Abu Downey and Elsa Pierson also had a big serving nights with five aces apiece, while Meg Frederick put an end to a handful of volleys with nine kills.
The Lakers will try and extend their win streak to seven games on Friday when they welcome Stevens to town.
The Lakers are now third in the Division III standings behind unbeaten Winnisquam and Campbell.
