Drivers who frequent Route 5 in White River Junction will likely face some heavy delays this week as construction nears completion on the Interstate 91 southbound bridge.
According to a press release, traffic on Route 5 could be stopped for 20 minutes or longer at times when cranes are working in the area. Traffic will be at its heaviest during the evenings Monday to Wednesday, through brief delays can also be expected between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on those days.
Traffic on interstate 91 will also be affected, with both the North-and-southbound sides being reduced to just one lane. Crews will eventually remove the current southbound bridge before sliding the new one into place.
It should be noted that this technique is called lateral slide and is the first time in Vermont that it is being executed. Construction is slated to be complete by September 21st.
