Wednesday night’s school board meeting also came with a sad announcement, as board chair Richard Seaman read a letter written by Stevens Principal Patricia Barry in which she announced she has breast cancer. Barry wrote in the letter that she recently underwent two surgeries, and is now receiving chemotherapy and other treatments.
The letter said she was diagnosed in June, and that the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. Barry wrote that her team of doctors is putting a plan together to get her back as soon as possible.
Currently, Barry is working from home where she maintains daily communication with the school and SAU offices.
Barry began as the school’s principal for the start of the 2014 school year.
