The hosting Stevens Cardinals came into this matchup with a record of 9 and 1 while the Newport Tigers held an undefeated record of 9 and 0. This was game 2 of a doubleheader between these top ranked teams as Newport managed to take the first matchup. So with this game played here in Claremont, the Cardinals were hoping for some revenge.
