Expectations were high on the part of proponents of the Mount Sunapee expansion into the West Bowl for today’s Governor and Council meeting at the State House in Concord on Wednesday. Over 30 protesters picketed in front of the State House then moved inside to the Executive Council chambers adjacent to the Governor’s Office.
The approval on the part of the Council was the 40th item on the agenda so as they worked through the opening formalities and the first few items the Governor indicated that because of the size of the crowd she would take a motion to move ahead to the Mount Sunapee expansion.
Councilor Joseph Kennedy who represents the first district that includes the town of Sunapee made a motion to table the item until the next council meeting with the caveat that they would hold a hearing before so the members could be better briefed by DRED Commissioner Jeffrey Rice.
The members felt that they needed to be better informed on the proposal before voting. The vote was 5-0 to table under the proposed conditions. YCN asked Mount Sunapee Resort’s General Manager Jay Gamble how he felt about the postponed decision.
The hearing is proposed for April 4th.
