A small group in the town of Alstead cleared a major hurdle earlier this month in its race to open a new charter high school in the Monadnock Region.
The New Hampshire Board of Education unanimously approved an application for the proposed LEAF School at its Jan. 7 meeting, meaning founders can now take the next steps in applying for available grants.
The school would be located in the Mole Hill Theatre on Gilsum Mine Road according to the Keene Sentinel, and would be incorporated within the Fall Mountain Regional School District.
Founders, including Fall Mountain teach Dakota Benedetto, hope to have the school open by the fall of 2017, making it the third charter school located within the Monadnock Region. The school would be public – and therefore tuition free – and open to any student within the state.
It would have a limit of 112 students in all, boiling down to 28 students per grade.
