Kearsarge Girls Start Strong, Fall Short to One-Loss Falcons

The Kearsarge girls basketball team wasn’t exactly favored in Tuesday night’s matchup against a one-loss Bow team. But it certainly didn’t look that way for the bulk of the contest.

The Cougars headed into the contest with losses in four of their last five games, and were up against a Bow tied for the most wins among Division III teams.

Even so, it was Kearsarge who willed their way to a nine-point lead by the end of the first quarter, surrendering just a single point to a Falcons team that averages nearly 50 points a game. Coach Keith Roberts’ team held a slim three-point lead at the half, but Bow found its form from there, outscoring its opponent 25-11 over the game’s final 16 minutes to clinch a 38-27 victory.

The Cougars were led by an impressive performance from junior forward Devi Kraushaar, who finished with a team-high 10 points – all of which coming in the first.

Kraushaar added a handful of rebounds and put backs for the home team, while fellow junior forward Courtney Lauster added seven points, including a nice finish on a pass from Sydney Bryk. Erin Boldwin and Lea Crompton led Bow scorers with 12 points apiece.

The Cougars will try and bounce back Friday when they welcome another one-loss team to town in Newfound.
