Sunapee Holds Looney Lunge at Harbor

Although Sunapee Mountain Resort has officially opened for the ski season, that doesn’t mean that people aren’t still swimming in Lake Sunapee, but you’ve got to be looney to do that.

The Sunapee Recreation Department held their annual Looney Lunge in Sunapee Harbor this past Saturday. Sixteen swimmers plunged into frigid Lake Sunapee and then back out into big yellow blankets that were provided by the Sunapee Fire Department.

The fire department also had one person in the water in a dry suit in case anyone needed help braving the ice cold bath.

With air and water temperatures in the 40s and no snow on the ground yet, this year’s lunge was a relatively mild swim in comparison to years past.

The annual event was one of the events held during the Sunapee Harbor Magic holiday celebration. Other Harbor Magic events included arts and crafts, cookie decorating, a silent auction, and a visit from Santa Claus.
