The West Weathersfield Fire Department spent just about an hour Tuesday afternoon cleaning up a mysterious fuel spill on Route 131 near Downers Four Corners.
According to a press release, the spill was confined to just a few hundred feet, after it’s believed the driver of the vehicle noticed the leak and stopped to fix it. The vehicle was not at the scene when police arrived, and crews worked promptly to cover affected areas with absorbent material.
Police say there was no evidence of fluid on nearby Route 106, and that all areas were dry when they left the scene. Officials have not yet identified what type of fuel was spilled – or where exactly it came from – though they said they believe it was a form a diesel fuel.
