A pair of family owned businesses in Lebanon are slated to shut their doors to customers. Encore Books, located in the Staples Plaza on Route 12A will close by the end of the month, while the Shoetorium found on the pedestrian mall in the city’s downtown will also shut its doors in the coming days.
Encore Books opened more than 20 years ago at its Route 12A location, offering patrons both used and discounted books. But owners say a lack of revenue likely due to online book retailers has made the business unsustainable. The store will begin a liquidation sale Monday in an effort.
The Shoetorium has served customers in the Upper Valley for the past 45 years, but co-owner Marty Carlton told the Valley News that a decline in sales and increase in costs led to the closer.
