Brattleboro Police Identify Woman Struck and Killed by Train

Police in Brattleboro, Vermont have identified a woman struck and killed by a train on Friday. Police have released the woman’s identity as 57-year old Susan Collins, with no known residence.

Her body was discovered on Friday around 1:30 PM when both the Brattleboro Police Department and Fire Department received a report from Amtrak that a woman had been struck by the southbound train.

The exact location is was a quarter mile south of the North Bridge, which crosses the West River. Units who arrived on the scene found Collins’ body halfway between the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge and Walnut Street.

Amtrak Police also responded and assisted at the scene. Amtrak says that train number 55 of the Vermonter struck a “trespasser on the tracks” Friday afternoon with 83 passengers aboard. The train stopped with emergency brakes and remained on scene for several hours after the collision.
