Last Friday, the Kearsarge Cougars boys tennis team hosted the Profile Patriots for a very competitive matchup.
The Cougars were coming off of a tough match just two days earlier, losing to a strong Bow team 4 to 5 for just their first loss of the season. Kearsarge was hoping to avoid a second straight loss against the Patriots.
Jack Van Etten won 8-0 for the third ranked singles spot, Matt Hubley won 8-6 at #5 and Sam Williamson won 8-5 at #6 for Kearsarge while Profile won its first, second and fourth singles matches meaning this contest would come down to doubles. The number one ranked game went Profiles way, while the third match went Kearsarge’s way. Tied at 4-4, it would come down to number two doubles.
Jack Van Etten and Charlie O’Connor did all they could to get the win but eventually lost in a tiebreaker which resulted in an overall victory at 5-4 for Profile. Patriots head coach Jeff Woodward and player Brody Bushway spoke to YCN after the match.
Kearsarge falls to 6-2 while Profile improves to 5-2.
