The Stevens baseball team hosted Mascoma Tuesday at Barnes Park right here in Claremont.
The Stevens Cardinals, coming in at 2 and 4, hoped to end a two-game losing streak against the Mascoma Royals. The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead and opened up the game with a two-run fifth and a five-run sixth. Drew Grenier had two hits with three runs scored, an RBI and two steals for the Cardinals.
Steven’s pitcher Logan Berry was able to pitch the entire game, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out six. Mascoma hadn’t scored for most of the game but was able to break the shutout with a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Mascoma’s Ty Warner that scored Will Morrison.
Morrison would pitch three innings for Mascoma, eventually taking the loss. Final score Stevens 9, Mascoma 1. Stevens head coach Paul Silva, pitcher Login Berry and Mascoma’s head coach Guy Serviss spoke to YCN after the game.
Stevens improves to 3-4 while Mascoma falls to 3-8. Mascoma visits Kearsarge this afternoon for its fifth game over the last six days while Stevens goes up against Newport for a day-night doubleheader.
