Sunapee Baseball Maintains Ranking Near Top of Division Over Newport

Monday, Sunapee’s baseball team traveled to take on nearby rivals Newport.

A strong lakers team faced off against the tigers at Bill Bates memorial field in Newport. This was an out of division matchup with Newport in division III and Sunapee in division IV. In theory Newport should be the stronger team as they’re in a higher division but Sunapee has a strong baseball program and it showed. Sunapee scored early to take the lead and then would score eight times with two outs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Will Austin took the mound for Sunapee and pitched very well recording seven strikeouts and four walks while allowing only 3 hits and 2 earned runs over seven strong innings of work. Austin also had three hits and three RBI’s for the Lakers. Cade Robinson also helped lead Sunapee’s offense with three hits and three RBI’s.

Final score, Sunapee 13, Newport 3. Sunapee head coach and starting pitcher spoke to YCN after the game.

Sunapee is now 8 and 1 and is sitting at second place in division IV only behind undefeated Littleton.
