Last Tuesday Stevens High School, right here in Claremont, hosted its first home track meet of the year.
Eight teams competed at the 1st home meet for Stevens High School this year held at Monadnock Park last Tuesday. The teams included, of course Stevens, Fall Mountain, Monadnock, Sunapee, Hillsboro-Deering, Mount Royal, Thetford, Mascoma and Newport. Stevens had winning days for both Boys and Girls teams, taking team firsts for each. 2nd place for the Girls went to Fall Mountain, followed by Sunapee, Newport, Mascoma Valley, Mount Royal Academy and Hinsdale.
The boys 2nd place team was Mascoma Valley, followed by Hillsboro-Deering, Newport, Sunapee, Mount Royal Academy, Hinsdale and Fall Mountain.
A number of athletes achieved qualifying times and distances for their State Division II and III Meets later this month. The winner of the girls hurdles was Rette Soloman of Mount Royal Academy with a time of 18.35 seconds. The winner of the boys hurdles was Matt Gobin of Stevens with a time of 16.03 seconds. Girls javelin winner was Carley Patch of Fall Mountain with a distance of 100 feet.
The boys 1600 meter winner was Ben Jones of Mascoma Valley with a time of 4 minutes and 52 seconds. Parker Smith from Stevens won the boys high jump with 6 feet. Boys long jump winner was Sheldon Farnsworth of Mascoma Valley with 19 feet, 1 inch and one quarter inch.
The Boys discus winner was Brandon White, also from Mascoma Valley with a distance of 94 feet and 1 inch. Stevens took first in both the girls and boys 4 by 100 meter relay. Stevens had a strong all around day and will look to place first again Tuesday in Hanover.
