On Tuesday, the Kearsarge cougars softball team hosted Hillsboro-Deering. Ashley Thompson took the mound for Kearsarge while Emma Moore pitched for Hillsboro.
Both teams came into this game with below .500 records but nonetheless, the girls battled. Kearsarge would take an early lead after run scoring singles from Maddie Folcik, Emily Folcik and Payten Hebert in the first inning. Maddie Folcik would also hit a two-run homer in the second.
Maggie Atkins was supposed to pitch this game against Kearsarge but she injured her leg and is out until further notice so Hillsboro’s Emma Moore stepped up to the plate for her team. She would hit a double off the fence and make some nice defensive plays but ultimately Kearsarge’s offense was too much to handle as the Cougars would win by the mercy rule 16 to 3. Kearsarge Head Coach and starting pitcher talked to YCN after the game.
Kearsarge now improves to 3 and 5 while Hillsboro-Deering falls to 1 and 5. The Cougars will face off against Merrimack Valley on Monday where they will be out for revenge after losing by two runs earlier in the season.
