A few weeks ago the girls basketball division two state championship matchup featured the Hanover Marauders and Goffstown Grizzlies. Let’s take a look at how the second quarter of this exciting game played out.
After the first quarter the score, Goffstown 11 Hanover 10 as the Grizzlies began the game strong by scoring eight points compared to Hanover’s two. But the Marauders would close out the first quarter on a six to zero run.
Hanover had the momentum heading into the second quarter but would they continue their impressive combination of offense and defense? Well for the first two minutes, missed shots and sloppy turnovers plagued boths teams but solid defense did make it difficult to score.
Finally Hanover’s Emma Riccardi picks up a missed Goffstown rebound and hits a put back to score the quarters first two points. Goffstown would then answer when Sarah Doherty hits a floater off the backboard that brings the score to Hanover 12 Goffstown 13. The rest of the quarter was high scoring for Hanover as Milliman, Golder and Merguerian lead the offensive barrage. The Marauders would score 13 points total points in the second.
Goffstown’s Kathryn Howe helped the Grizzlies stay afloat by nailing a silky smooth 3-pointer. They would only score 7 in the quarter. By the end of the half the score was Hanover 23, Goffstown 18.
Hanover clearly brought their first quarter momentum into the end of the first half while Goffstown did everything they could to keep the Marauder lead at a close 5 points.
