On Friday, Hanover and Goffstown met to determine who would take home the trophy in the DII championship game in girls basketball.
Entering the DII semifinals game on Monday, the Hanover girls basketball team were feeling great. They had been on a 12 game win streak and had just taken down the undefeated Portsmouth girls team who were the number #1 seed.
Portsmouth was supposed to be the toughest opponent in the tournament so Hanover felt as if the worst was over especially since the Marauders had already faced Goffstown twice during the regular season.
During the first two quarters Hanover and Goffstown looked neck and neck. Just before the first half ended Caroline Merguerian nailed a 3-pointer to give the Marauders a 23-18 lead.
But when the second half started things began to go Goffstown’s way as Hanover scored just a mere 8 points combined between the 3rd and 4th quarters while shooting only 12.5% from the field. Goffstown would end up out scoring Hanover 12 to 5 in the 3rd quarter and 7 to 3 in the 4th which gave Goffstown a DII championship victory by a score of 37 to 31.
The Marauders will say goodbye to their seniors, Miller, Rodi, and Riccardi but have already started focusing on returning to the finals next season as the result of this year has left many of their returning freshmen hungry for more.
We congratulate the Lady Marauders as they finished out their season.
