Many Kearsarge and Lake Sunapee area town held their annual town meetings Wednesday night with proposals for new buildings, building renovations, and solar panels on the docket at the town meetings. More than 300 Newbury residents traveled to the Spruce Lodge at Mt. Sunapee Resort to voice their opinions and vote on the town budget as well as a $4 million bond to build a new police and fire station in town. The bond vote for the new safety service building was voted down but the town budget passed.
In Bradford, residents filled the gym at the Bradford Elementary School to discuss and vote on various town articles, including a bond to raise 1.8 million dollars to renovate the Bradford Town Hall. After much discussion on the bond, voters in Bradford voted no and the Town Hall renovation was left in its tracks.
In Warner, where attendance was also high for the town meeting, voters turned down a proposed municipal solar project to generate electricity for the town but voters did pass putting $100,000 into a capital reserve fund for a new fire station.
Sutton and New London both sailed through their town meetings, passing all articles on their perspective warrants.
