Fall Mountain Girls End Season Short of Division Title

The Fall Mountain girls basketball team traveled Wednesday night to Southern New Hampshire University in Hooksett.

Both teams battled through the first period exchanging basket for basket with neither team taking a commanding lead until the end of the first then Gilford went on a 8 – 0 run and was ahead 14 – 8 at the end of the quarter. Fall Mountain, not to be outdone, came out shooting in the second sinking a three and a lay up scoring the first five points in the the quarter to cut the deficit to one.

The teams continued to play evenly both on offense and defense the rest of the quarter with Fall Mountain Wildcats again putting on an offensive spurt at the end of the period finishing the first half with a 26 – 23 lead.

The third period saw much of the same as both teams continued to play hard with neither team ever ahead by more than five points. With Gilford up 37 – 34 going into the fourth Fall Mountain once again battled back and retook the lead with just over five minutes to play. Gilford was not done and retook the lead and tried to run out the clock forcing Fall Mountain to foul.

The Wildcats had a few more chances to close the gap in the final seconds but could not get the ball in the basket and ended their season 17 and 4. Sophie Bushey (#3) was leading scorer for Fall Mountain with 12 points.

The Wildcats went into the Division III semi final game against undefeated Gilford looking for another upset but it was not to be. The sixth seeded Wildcats did keep it close all night but fell short 53 – 46 that ended their season one game short  in playing in the title game.

Congratulations on the Fall Mountain Wildcats girls basketball team on a great season.
