The Kearsarge girls basketball team has been hoping to close out its regular-season schedule in style, and with back to back wins and a struggling Sanborn team in town Wednesday night, coach Keith Roberts team was determined to fight its way to yet another victory.
The Cougars headed into the contest at two games below .500 at 6-8, and were up against a Sanborn squad with just three wins on the season.
And while it was Kearsarge who shot its way to a 10-point lead by halftime, Sanborn refused to throw in the towel, and even cut its deficit to within five points late in the final quarter. But the Cougars proved too deep in the long run, and pulled away for a 40-28 victory worth the team’s third straight win.
Once again, it was junior forward Devi Kraushaar who led the way offensively, finishing with a game-high 15 points – including a nice rebound and put back. Senior forward Bri Sullivan added seven points for the home team, followed by senior captain Sydney Bryke with five.
Kearsarge now sits in 17th in the Division III standings with just four regular-season games remaining.
Kearsarge will try and earn a fourth straight win on Tuesday when they travel to face Merrimack Valley.
