It was a big matchup between Division III foes Stevens and Mascoma Tuesday night, with just one game separating the teams from the 10th spot in the standings.
And while both teams headed into the matchup with four wins in their last five games, it was Stevens who came into the contest favored on paper with a deep roster made up of both speed and size.
And the Cardinals did have their share of success against the visiting team last night, with big man Zach O’Brien covering several 3-pointers, and his brother Nick providing some big buckets in the paint, it was Mascoma who left celebrating a 64-55 victory.
The Royals benefited from offensive contributions throughout its roster, including some big third-quarter buckets from Devin Duhaime, who finished with 20 points including four 3-pointers.
As usual, it was junior Alex Shwarz who led Mascoma offensively, finishing with a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the first half alone to help his team improve to 6-5 on the year.
Mike Pezone spoke with Mascoma coach Jim Barry after the game to ask what specifically was clicking for Schwarz against the Cardinals.
Both teams will be on the road Friday, with Mascoma traveling to face Monadnock and Stevens taking on Laconia.
