A 46-year-old Lebanon man is facing multiple charges after a single-vehicle accident on Route 5 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on Friday.
According to Vermont State Police, troopers responded to an accident near the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility shortly after 10 p.m. Friday night to find an intoxicated William Howell at the bottom of an embankment.
Officers believe Howell hit several guardrails along Route 5 before leaving the roadway, and the man was not injured as a result of the accident. During their investigation, troopers determined that Howell’s license was under criminal suspension at the time of the accident, and that he had reported his own vehicle stolen in Lake City, Florida.
Howell – who also had a warrant out for his arrest in Vermont – refused to provide a preliminary breath sample, and was arrested on multiple charges including driving under the influence.
Howell was held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
