An update in Tuesday’s story involving the collision of a tractor trailer and a car on I-89 Monday. At this time, alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash, which sent 22-year old Nicholas Christian of Woodstock to the hospital.
According to police, Christian was driving his Pontiac Grand Am east along Route 4 shortly before 3:30 Monday morning when he allegedly veered into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The operator of the tractor-trailer, Edwin Berry of Wheelock, Vermont, swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but the vehicles still collided, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
At the scene, Christian showed signs of being impaired by alcohol and police now suspect that driving under the influence was a factor in the crash. Christian was transported to nearby Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries, while Berry was unharmed as a result of the accident.
