The Windsor girls basketball team welcomed junior point guard Ashleay Wilcox back to the court Monday night after a lengthy injury, and were hopeful her return would spark new life into the .500 squad.
The Yellow Jackets headed into the contest at 4-4 without Wilcox this season, and were up against a 7-2 Mill River team fresh off a Division II championship last season. Even so, it was the home team that hit the ground running after the opening tip, hustling its way to a 8-5 lead after the first quarter.
Unfortunately for coach Bruce Mackay’s team, however, it was all Mill River from there as the Minutemen outscored Windsor 35-18 over the game’s final three quarters to clinch a 40-26 road victory.
Maddy Morse led the Yellow Jackets with 10 points including this nice finish on a pass from Wilcox, while Wilcox used her speed to her in advantage in what was a six-point effort in her return. Senior Katey Comstock also played well for the Yellow Jackets, converting serval mid-range jumpers. Rylee Perron led Mill River scorers with nine points.
Windsor will try and bounce back Friday when it travels to face Woodstock in what will be next week’s YCN Game of the Week.
