Van Crashes Into Claremont’s Moody Building

There was a wild scene in Claremont’s Opera House Square Wednesday afternoon as a two-car accident left one vehicle smashed into the city’s historic Moody Building. YCN News was at the scene, and caught up with a witnesses to the accident.

According to Claremont Police, 55-year-old Patrick Taylor of Hancock, New York, was arrested at the scene on charges of driving under the influence and resisting arrest. Police say Taylor was driving his black 2007 Jeep down Pleasant Street at a high rate of speed shortly after 12:30 Thursday afternoon, when he failed to negotiate the roundabout and drove through the center of Opera House Square.

Taylor then struck another vehicle as he exited the square, before crashing into the historic Moody Building and Farro’s Deli. An eyewitness to the accident told YCN News the driver fled the vehicle on foot, but was quickly apprehended by officers. No injuries were reported at the scene, though police say additional charges could be pending.
