The former Ascutney Mountain Resort and its 470-subsequent acres were officially sold Tuesday to the Trust for Public Land.
The resort closed back in 2010 after filing for bankruptcy, but could once again be open to recreational use if plans to create a trail network come through. The trails would connect the West Windsor Town Forest on the west side of the mountain to the state park on the east side to be maintained by the trust.
In a news release announcing the purchase, the Trust for Public Land said the move “not only ensures permanent protection of the property, but also secures an extensive trail network with a diverse wildlife habitat. The trust raised $915,000 to purchase the property with help from the town of West Windsor and several state boards.
A celebration of the purchase and dedication of the mountain’s newly constructed rope tow will be held Feb. 6.
