A single-family home in Unity was destroyed early Thursday morning in a fire that took crews from eight departments approximately two hours to extinguish.
Members of the Unity Fire Department responded to the scene on Unity Springs Road shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday morning to find the structure already fully engulfed in flames.
Crews from nearby Newport, Claremont, Sunapee, Lempster, Croydon, Goshen and Acworth lended their assistance, and played a big role in preventing a pair of recently-filled propane tanks from exploding, quelled by spraying a constant stream of water on them.
Authorities say the homeowner was inside when the blaze began, and escaped the home uninjured with his dog. The fire was declared under control by 6 a.m., though its cause remains under investigation by both local and state authorities.
Crews remained on the scene until about 9 a.m. Thursday morning to clean up the area.
