Hartford School Board Member Resigns

A member of the Hartford School Board abruptly resigned Thursday after he was involved in multiple clashes during Wednesday night’s meeting.

Paul Keane, a former English teacher at Hartford High and 24-year veteran of the district, resigned in an email sent to School Board Chairwoman Lori Dickerson sent at 3:18 a.m.

According to the Valley News, Keane cited both “procedural baloney and petty politics” in his email as reasons for his resignation. During a regularly-scheduled school board meeting hours earlier, Keane abruptly left after a second-and final clash with fellow board members.

The first exchange came when Keane and a fellow board member hoped to discuss a new code of conduct policy the two had not yet signed. Dickerson chose to table the matter, though, to the dismay of Keane.

And finally, Keane loudly left the meeting after he objected to verbiage in discussing the district’s finances he found confusing. Dickerson accepted Keane’s resignation yesterday morning.
