Update: Brattleboro Apartment Fire Considered Suspicious
A four-alarm fire on Valgar Street in Brattleboro early Saturday morning that displaced 45 residents is now being considered suspicious according to local and state officials.
Nobody was injured during the massive blaze that took crews from three states more than four hours to extinguish, and forced 11 of 12 families living in the building to seek alternate lodging. In a press release distributed Thursday afternoon, investigators say they’ve been working continuously since the morning of the fire to determine an origin and cause.
The release went on to say that several interviews have been conducted to gather information, but that nobody is in custody and their investigation remains ongoing. Both the Brattleboro Police and Fire Departments are working in conjunction with Vermont State Police and a Vermont Fire Investigation Unit on the case.
By Wednesday evening, five of the building’s seven apartments had been reoccupied.
